Heritage Counts

The ‘Heritage Counts’ series provides annual evidence on the value of heritage to our economy, society and environment.

The ‘Heritage Counts’ reports, published annually by Historic England on behalf of the Forum, provide data on the heritage sector in England and the value of heritage in our society. The series includes: An Overview of the sector; ‘Heritage Indicators’; ‘Heritage and Society’; ‘Heritage and the Economy’; ‘Heritage and the Environment’; a thematic issue every year.

HEF is responsible for setting the themes, directing the research and overseeing the content of Heritage Counts.

In 2019 the thematic issue was focused on Carbon emissions in the built historic environment: ‘There’s No Place Like Old Homes: Re-Use and Recycle to Reduce Carbon’.
